The book features SCARECROW, a tough-as-nails ex-Special Forces soldier with a talent for attracting hard-core action and finding himself immersed in impossible cliffhanger situations that only the SCARECROW can figure out the way to survive...and its usually facing the enemy head-on, with action that is teaming with high-speed chases, gun battles, explosions, fights, and hang-on-to-the-seat-of-your-pants action that keeps the pages turning. That's exactly what you get with ARMY OF THIEVES.As a rogue terrorist group has seized a remote island left over from the Cold War, with a plan to release a destructive weapon into the atmosphere that would spell certain doom for the Western hemisphere, it is up to Schofield and his small force of freedom fighters to act fast and save the world from certain destruction. One of the strengths of this book is, it digs deeper into Schofields character and gives the reader more in-depth information about the SCARECROW, what has moulded him into the hard-ass hero that he is. There are also some very "uncomfortable" scenes involving "rat torture" that may have readers skimming through the scene quickly just to get through it. If anything, the book sets out to do exactly what it is intended for: a pure adrenaline rush with fast-paced entertainment for the die-hard action fan.I would recommend you tackle some of the earlier books such as SCARECROW and THE FIVE GREATEST WARRIORS before picking up this one. But, if you are in an airport or the bookstore and you happen to come across this and nothing else, you can certainly enjoy it without reading the previous books. Matt Reilly's books are like a comic book roller coaster: impossibly fast-paced, & wildly entertaining. They're not intended to be taken seriously; they are, instead, intended to give the reader a good time. I've never yet read one of his books that failed to delight, & this one is no exception.Explosive action, hilarious lines & scenes, a heroic effort to save the world -- all of that, & much, much more, is found between these two covers. The first review on this page says it better than me, but I just want to add in one little observation. This book is riddled with events that will make you say "No effin' WAY" & if it's your first ever Reilly, you might not want to even finish it the first time one of those lunatic events happens, but all you need do is simply suspend disbelief, accept that Shane Scofield did the utterly impossible, & drive on. This is especially true of the near-climax, when what happens to Scofield & his friends is so far beyond belief that its turns back around & becomes believable again. Because, after everything else Scofield & Company have done, nothing else is impossible.IMO, if this book isn't turned into a movie VERY FREEKIN' SOON, than Hollywood is more of a lost cause than I'd previously feared.A couple of caveats, tho. Matt Reilly seems to have a significant "hard on" against the American CIA, & IMO, he simply does not understand Americans. In particular, one conversation, between Our Hero & a SEAL Team officer, I think would never have happened the way he depicts it. But Reilly has been called on these things before, & his explanations have seemed fair enough to me; he doesn't "hate" Americans, he just thinks that because America is the 800-pound gorilla of international affairs, that it's perfectly possible for some Americans to be nefarious "bad guys" with nefarious, anti-American intent. In this particular novel, nothing could be further from the truth. But despite their actual pro-American intent, they're STILL bad guys, & it's exceedingly pleasing to see the ways Scofield puts them down.I can't freekin' wait for Reilly's next circus.

This is the latest in Matthew Reilley's series about the character Scarecrow. Fans of the series know already that when Mr Riley writes a book, you want to clear your calendar for the day and stockpile lots of fast food - because fast is the very essence of these books. The action scenes are extraordinarily imaginative and fast-paced, and there is little time wasted on dialogue. What character development exists is usually measured in bullets spent or explosions rendered. These books typically read like a pinball machine going crazy at full speed. If somebody tried to make a movie of these books, people would say "no way they can do that stunt!". This latest finds Scarecrow and team on a supposedly restive routine mission shepherding some research geeks, the easy mission as a respite from previous arduous adventures. However, Fate drops a World-ending situation at their feet, and they have to respond in true Scarecrow fashion - fast, lots of destruction, narrow escapes, and unbelievably imaginative scenarios. I strongly urge readers to start with the first books and work forward to the latest in order to fully understand the background story of Scarecrow and his associates. Each of the books is a thrill-ride just like the last. You will not regret the purchase. For additional non-stop action of a more archeological kind, check out Mr Reilley's amazing series featuring Jack West, Jr , starting with "Seven Deadly Wonders". I liked this audiobook but it was bit of a disappointment after absolutely loving the first two books in the series. This was a re-read for me but I actually didn't remember anything about it from my initial read years ago. I am actually pretty sure that this is the book that I stopped on when I started the series the first time. It was a good book but it wasn't anywhere near as entertaining as the first two in the series were for me.This book started out really strong with Rachel having to deal with Big Al. Things looked pretty bad for her and I had no idea how she was going to outsmart him. She ends up getting a bit of help from his familiar and a werewolf insurance agent. It was a close call for Rachel and while she is trying to recover a secret slips out and Jenks ends up mad...and leaves. I missed Jenks constant presence in this book.This book really seemed a bit more focused on the character relationships. I can't say that I really liked all of the developments in this installment. Nick can't handle being near Rachel so he leaves town. Rachel starts dating Kisten and while they have chemistry it seemed to happen way too fast. Ivy is having her own struggles with Piscary and staying in control. Jenks needs some time away to cool down. This felt like more of a transitional book that may be laying the framework for future books.I did enjoy the narration in this audiobook. Marguerite Gavin is really the perfect narrator for this series. She is Rachel in my mind but she also performs all of the different voices very well. I never have any trouble understanding who is speaking and her delivery really keeps my focus on the story.I would recommend this book to others. This is the third book in the series and I really do think that this series needs to be read in order since everything builds from the earlier books. Readers who try to read this as a stand alone will most likely be quite lost. I am looking forward to starting the next audiobook in this series very soon!

Don't let other reviewers compare her to Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake, since I no longer read that series since Anita became a sex sucking demon, I gave up hoping she'd get back to ass kicking. Now there's little miss Rachel, getting good at recovering from severe ass kickings, slapped around by bigger and badder bad guys, every few chapters.I won't read a story where the lead doesn't learn and improve.I'm giving this one more book.Why? Because the writer usually gives up on the character after a few books anyway, why should I pay for apathy? If Rachel gets slapped in the face ONE MORE TIME! I'm done here too.

Looking for a romance with some action and fantasy thrown in? This series is for you. Looking for some quality fantasy and action with less focus on romance? I'd look elsewhere. Technically, the writing was fine, but the content had me skimming, and was not all that engaging to read. The description of magic and whatnot was nebulous and vague feeling, and the main heroine seemed to be frustratingly helpless, yet strangely powerful, all at the same time.She escapes seemingly hopeless situations on small technicalities, not due to any skill of her own, and that gets somewhat blase over the course of the series. Most of the detail was given to relationships and romance, with less attention given to the magic and action. Not my cup of tea, but a ok read for someone who is interested in this kind of stuff. If you are looking for a more action/magic oriented urban fantasy series, I would recommend the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

Every Which Way but Dead is an apt title for this book, because Rachel will do almost anything in order to make sure she’ll be alive when all is said and done. She has some very big players to go up against now, though, and she especially has to be very cunning in her dealings with her favorite demon, Al.My review of Every Which Way but Dead is spoiler free, but there might be spoilers from the first two books in it. Especially because the plot is moving forward pretty quickly, and I want to make sure I touch on all the things that were important to me while reading. So if you’re even later than me to The Hollows series, continue to read if you don’t mind knowing some of what has happened in the first two books.From the beginning of Every Which Way but Dead, Nick is very distant, and he seems to become more distant with each interaction between him and Rachel. Rachel tries her best to make things better, but he seems to be reluctant to move forward, and always has excuses ready so they won’t have time to see each other. When she shows up at his house unexpectedly and sees that he is more or less ready to move away, she feels like she’s been hit in the gut – even if she wants to believe him when he says it’s so that he won’t feel it every time she touches a ley-line.Al wants what Rachel has promised him, and when Rachel summons him, he arrives with his soon-to-be former familiar in tow. Of course, Rachel now wants to save both the other woman and herself. Negotiating with Al is not an easy task, and Ceri, the woman he promises Rachel he’ll free is so out of it she is hardly even conscious. I love that Rachel can be just as sneaky as a demon, and I was almost clapping my hands when Al realized he wasn’t going to be able to get Rachel exactly where he wanted her – at least not at first.Apart from all her trouble with Al and work, Rachel soon realizes that her personal life will become even more of a roller coaster once she agrees to something Kist asks her. And then, somehow, she gets more entangled with Trent as well – until she ends up in an extremely uncomfortable situation for a while.The action is on every page, as is the humor and the growing relationships among the friends and partners. I love getting to know Ivy, Jenks and Rachel better, and the way they interact is great. Of course, because Rachel has trust-issues, things don’t go as she hoped when someone finds out the hard way that Rachel hasn’t been completely honest with them. And I am left thinking that maybe some relationships cannot be mended at all. New characters arriving might also cause trouble for Rachel, especially when she realizes the depth of the relationship some of those have with the people who are close to her.

I first read all the Hollows books as they came out, many as library books. Now I'm buying the whole series for my Kindle and loving them all over again. It's been about ten years and they are still fast paced exciting stories which keep pulling me on at a high consumption rate. Fantasy that hangs together and makes a coherent world with excellent history and a viable alternative present.

What I liked best about this book was the numerous helpful tips and examples Brian Tracy shared to illustrate each point for further enhancing efforts of how to present yourself to others (whether that audience be one person or a group). Highly recommend!

I love this book.It's awesome.I'd like to learn more about salesperson and techniques.As an esl I always have the ambition to do public speaking.But i'm not sure if it's okay for me to make speech in another language other than my mother tongue. But still believe everything is achieveable

This book cover pretty much everything on how to be a better speaker and communicator. However, it emphasizes more to public speaking. Not exactly the book you are looking for engaging people in social situation, sales, company's meeting, etc. Mainly because the writer is a famous public speaker.

I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn how to speak and present better. Best of all, it's practical because it draws from his own experience instead only studies and reviews. He definitely helps break down the components into easy to practice skills.

Brian covers broadly a very important topic; the Art of Speaking & Rhetoric. He covers many many topics in a very small book incl. small audience, large audience and controlling your space. Obviously, the topics lack depth while the interested reader can learn more with a specific book. For example Chapter 8, 'Vocal Mastery', Brian offers some basic tools within the natural limits of 13 pages. Readers wanting to get more deep knowledge on the subject could buy a book like 'the 3-Dimensional Voice'.All in all, SPEAK TO WIN does well in covering the basics of many subjects in speaking and rhetoric. Gr 1-4–Readers accustomed to stories of enslaved African Americans trying to reach Canada and freedom may be surprised to learn that slavery was legal there until 1834. Although the laws were not as restrictive as those in parts of the United States, many African-Canadians faced discrimination well into the 20th century. In 1946, Desmond was a successful businesswoman. On her way from Halifax to a meeting in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, her car broke down. Since the repairs would take several hours, she decided to go to a movie while she waited. She purchased a ticket and took a seat on the main floor of the theater. An usher told her she had to move to the balcony. When Desmond refused, she was forcibly removed by the police and spent the night in jail. While segregation was not technically legal, it was enforced by custom. Although the story is serious, the picture-book format and rhythmic text that mimics oral speech patterns will be inviting to a wide range of readers. The acrylic paintings portray Desmond as well dressed and professional, and the bold colors reflect her strength of will. Varying perspectives heighten the emotional intensity, as do the excellent layout and design. Just as she was getting settled, she was told by the usher that main-floor seating wasn’t covered by her ticket, and she’d have to move to the balcony with the other blacks. But she, like a prominent female bus rider, refused to give up her seat and was jailed. This incident is notable for its location: Nova Scotia. Viola Desmond was the Canadian Rosa Parks. This is an excellent new picture book biography about Canadian Civil Rights pioneer Viola Desmond. Like her better-known counterpart Rosa Parks, Viola refused to give up her seat--but in this case in a segregated movie theatre in 1946 Nova Scotia, rather than a city bus in 1955 Montgomery.The story is told in a folksy, oral-history tradition, with the narrator speaking directly to the audience, drawing us into this compelling story of racism and courage. Viola, owner of a beauty salon, is forced to stop in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia when her car breaks down. To pass the time, she decides to stop at the local movie theatre. She finds the perfect seat, down in front, and before she can settle in to enjoy the movie, an usher tells her she has to go to the balcony. When she refuses, "They took Viola to jail. Can you believe it?" After being fined $20 (a lot of money back then) for "refusing to pay the proper ticket price," she was released. The judge wouldn't listen when she said she was happy to pay for a downstairs ticket.Viola and black community groups decided not to put up with this segregationist treatment, and appealed her case. Although the appeal was unsuccessful, the author points out that Viola's fight galvanized the fight against segregation in Canada, which was outlawed in the late 1950's.Viola Desmond Won't Be Budged! is the first book of Jody Nyasha Warner, a writer, editor, and former librarian who is particularly interested in African Canadian history. This carefully-researched book provides young learners with an informative look at racial segregation in Canada and a pivotal event in the civil rights movement. Interestingly, the book's 2010 publication coincided with a formal apology from Nova Scotia's government and a pardon of the charge against her, the first posthumous free pardon ever granted in Canada. The book arrived about 5 days after I ordered it and I love it. Aside from the in depth text, they offer great chapter review questions straight from the AMT exam. Great for anyone studying medical lab assisting even medical technologist.

Bought the E-book version for kindle for PC and it was really easy to use. It was easy to just type in what I wanted to find in a search box instead of flipping through pages.

Being 44 and going back to school I was pretty nervous about writing research papers. This book helped me greatly, and what was most surprising is how readable it is. Instead of very dry prose, I found it to be informative and entertaining.It helped me greatly and my first grade on my Masters level research paper was 99%.I would recommend it to all new students and if I ever reach my goal of becoming an adjunct professor I am definitely going to recommend it to my students.

I have not used the complete book as yet. As the author suggest I found the areas I needed for a quick fix. I am now in the process of studying the book in depth and find it very helpful. I hope this fall when I go back to school that I will not need the librarian help that I have used in the past. I purchased it on my kindle and wish that I had a hard copy to mark the pages that I need.

Going to college soon and it's been a while since I was in school and done research papers. This book is great! I recommend it to anyone who needs help with research papers or just a refresher course. Easy read.

Writing research papers is hard. I'm not a beginner, but this book gives really good tips that can be used by anyone looking to work a little better. I strongly recommend this book unless you are writing your Master's thesis and then you already know what you have to do.

This book is written in a manner that all can understand. I suppose the title "...for dummies" says it all but I just had to point that out. It hits the major points of writing and is a useful additional resource that can help anyone who is in need of a little extra assistance in writing an academic paper.

My son is in the 1st grade. He seems to be storming through it pretty fast. I'd say this is the perfect book for in the beginning of the school year but after Spring break maybe it's a little too easy.

Like a bad History Channel show, this book panders to the sensationalist, tabloid mindset audience. Prof Cooney is far too fond of conspiracies within the royal court and hyping the role of the harem as sexual stimulation for the king. She constantly presents her conjectures as established facts; and while it is almost impossible to know the thoughts and mindset of people so far removed from the present, Prof Cooney repeatedly makes statements about what these ancient people thought. For example, she refers to the early Dynastic era court of Merneith as "bloodthirsty", and claims that royal males were sacrificed after the new Pharaoh was chosen - despite no concrete proof whatsoever that any of the male human sacrifices were of royal blood.It would take far too long to list all the items in this book that hit the wrong note with me - and there were quite a lot of them! - but I feel a need to mention a few of the more egregious. The reign of Hatshepsut and the Amarna Period are my own areas of special interest, and therefore rang the most false. That a ruler as evidently competent as Hatshepsut had to "buy off" the officials of the court and temple in order to remain in power is frankly insulting. And claiming that she was "lost to cultural memory" when girls of later generations were named Maatkare - her kingly throne name, NOT her personal name - overlooks the evidence to the contrary. Thutmose IV - the grandson of Thutmose III, who destroyed many of her monuments - held her in such high regard that he added his own name to an offering bowl she had dedicated where there was room, instead of removing hers, even adding the respectful title of Osiris to her name.And then there are the blatant math errors in the chapter on Nefertiti! Prof Cooney states that Akhenaten was 30 when he became king and married the teenage Nefertiti. She then claims that Tutankhamon was the son of Akhenaten by one of Nefertiti's daughters. Most of those girls were nowhere near childbearing age by the end of the reign; while the eldest could have been, there was not enough time for her to have borne a child and for that child to have been as old as Tutankhamon was when he became king.The constant emphasis on conspiracies and politicking within the court and the sexual role of the harem in each and every chapter gets old fast. There is so much to recommend in this book. Cooney examines the trajectories of six female pharaohs from the Old Kingdom to the Ptolmiac period: Merineth, Neferusobek, Hatshepsut, Nefertiti, Tawosret, and Cleopatra, discussing the similarities of their experiences as kings and drawing parallels to wider truths and similarities of women and power - and patriarchy - today.Most of these women were "placeholders" for men - tolerated as such so long as they did not "overstep" traditional gender roles as protectors of younger (male, of course) successors - essentially playing the part of the protective mother who has no interest in actually being in power. That these women also tended to act as regents during periods of upheaval and rapid political change is, Cooney argues, also part of the reason they were permitted to wield such authority.The exceptions - Hatshepsut and Cleopatra (and, perhaps, Nefertiti) - were of particular interest, as much for how these women took and held power as for how they were (and are) remembered after their deaths. In short, Hatshepsut's monuments and name was largely erased (her name, like that of Smenkhare) removed from the king's list ostensibly because they reached too far as women. Cooney's discussion of Nefertiti - and whether she is or is not Smenkhare, and the subsequent end of the 18th dynasty - was fascinating even in its brevity. For those unfamiliar, among Egyptologists, the identity of Smenkhare specifically, and the details of how Ay and Horemheb came to power is one of tremendous controversy.The real heart of the book, however, is the connections between the ancient past and the present. This is, after all, the whole point of studying history. Cooney does a masterful job of dating parallels between these powerful women and contemporary politics. That some, such as Benazir Bhutto, have learned how to align themselves with men of the past as they stake their political claim and therefore be accepted, as contrasted with Hillary Clinton who boldly sought to break away from the patriarchal power structure when she proclaimed, "... I challenge assumptions about women. I do make some people uncomfortable, which I'm well aware of, but that's just part of coming to grips with what I believe is still one of the most important pieces of unfinished business in human history - empowering women to stand up for themselves." That we in the early 21st century are seeing women in increasing numbers challenge traditional power structures in the workplace, in the military and in politics is both reason for celebration and, given the lessons of history, reason for concern, as power does not easily or readily concede.Come readers may take issue with the strong connections Cooney makes about women and power and the strong, bright lines that connect attitudes across time around the issue. I found her evidence compelling, her reasoning unassailable, and her writing clear. I very much enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.

Very good to help aspiring nurses select their path early in their training and education to avoid unnecessary (but often required) repeat courses which would cost more, such as in a career specialty change.

This book is more like a pamphlet--very thin, with only cursory descriptions. I am very disappointed in it, and also that I paid $6 for it. Don't bother.

I enjoy having a ton of options in one place. Easy to read and comprehend. The detail wasn’t bad. I’d like some more credible references added to the end for further research, and a section on nurses in administrative roles would be appreciated.

Going into the field there is a lot more information available beyond this book but it is a great foundation to get you thinking about the nursing path that you may want to pursue
