I like this well written, in depth, book explaining the Kabbalah. What I'd like to get clearer is that if the Creation written in Genesis is incorrect and the cosmos happened because of Ain Soph, etc. and the early Jewish leaders accepted an ill translated version of Creation; why is the Old Testament written down as it was, written with this ill translation, so accurate when it comes to the Bible Code? Would the Bible Code still work the same if the Old Testament was written as the Kabbalah says it should have been written?

Very good book, author can be convoluted at times but I still recommend.

So full disclosure that I've known Raef for a number of years as a colleague and friend. That fact makes it harder for me to be unbiased about this book compared to a work written by an author that I've never met. That said, I feel that this book is an excellent resource. What sets Raef's coverage apart from others in my opinion is two things: 1) the clarity/transparency of the writing and 2) the case studies that he uses to illustrate the points he makes.First, Raef does an excellent job of making difficult concepts easy to understand through *how* he writes. He's able to write in a manner that is both conversational and approachable, but that doesn't "talk down" to the reader. Moreover, he is careful to ground the topics he covers in "real world" examples that help to explain why the reader should care.This book covers quite a bit of ground: from fundamental security concepts to more advanced and technical topics. For a non-practitioner with an interest in security, this is the perfect introduction. It gives them the fundamentals supported by real-world evidence of why they matter. For the beginning practitioner, this provides a fantastic starting point as it serves as a sort of "gateway" to the security community. A new or more junior practitioner can directly "springboard" from this work into areas where they might need to do more detailed research for their particular job. This book lays out in detail the fundamental concepts that they need to understand to approach that material.All in all a great resource.

The book was informative if you know nothing about cyber security. It is very basic. Good for someone that just needs to know the very entry level info, this book isn’t for someone interested in getting into this field.

Not a bad book. It just didn't cover the issues we were looking for. Looks like it would be ok for someone who doesen't have many issues with Cyber security. For those who have a minor amount of saavy regarding the issue you might want to look elswhere. Again, it does say Cybersecurity for Beginners. It was well written with limited emphasis on crucial security issues for chronic attack targets.

A well thought out, intelligently written book on digital security issues and how to combat them, both before and after an attack. Great use of index of terms with their definitions at the end of the book.

Mr. Meeuwisse does an excellent work at doing an introduction about the general concepts of cybersecurity. In my opinion, the book is written for a "business-like" kind of reader and not so much for a technical person.Some parts, have to admit, i skimmed. But in general it is an outstanding book for anyone who doesn't know where to start!

As a n00b in thr cybersecurity space, I found this book to be incredibly insightful. The "Cyber-to-English" dictionary is quite helpful, too!

I learned so much information and events about cyber security that I once never knew! Very helpful for getting into the field. Covers the basics and informative.

Then you continue to clear and informative descriptions of how to use Focusing with clients, when, why... Her chapters flow from one to the other as she moves into what I think is the heart of her book: the felt sense as the key to successful therapy.It is here that I most appreciate the clear, empathetic instructions on teaching how a felt sense forms, how to be with it and allow our inner knowing to tell its story in its own time. While there are many modalities of therapy the heart of each is being able to access the felt sense and gradually learn to create the inner environment which then allows change to happen.Ann writes, key to this forward movement is fostering a strong witnessing self. It is from this self that disindentification versus identification happens, so that the client can eventually move from saying, 'I am afraid,' to 'something in me is afraid'. From here it doesn't take long for an inner trust to develop which then enables one to begin to experience change that brings a new way of perceiving along with new possibilities. The ease with which Ann moves from one modality to another incorporating Focusing into each one is very instructive.An image I have as I write this review is of someone gently holding my hand as I'm lead in and through to the beginning of a journey of self awakening. For anyone interested in learning Focusing for the first time or becoming inspired once again by a practice that is already familiar, I can't think of another book on the subject that I'd recommend more highly.

Blindsight. A science fiction book written by a scientist? Or a philosophical examination by a philosopher? The two are not mutually exclusive in good science fiction, and Blindsight is a striking example.I didn't know what to expect when I picked this book up. I understood that it was nominated for the Hugo award, so it intrigued me. It was recommended to me during a discussion about genetic memory. But when I first read that central to the book were not only extraterrestrials, but vampires in space, I was skeptical - was I going to get Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy captained by the Vampire Lestat? To my delight, and occasional horror, I was instead administered Arthur C. Clarke with a diabolical dose of H.P. Lovecraft.Put simply, this is not an optimist's viewpoint of the future. Watts examines sentience; consciousness, awareness of self, that incomprehensible aspect of humanity which separates us from other forms of life. Watts wants to convince you that sentience IS comprehensible, an evolutionary accident, a fluke, even a flaw, and he drags you kicking and screaming into his dystopian reality. Your self-awareness is not only a lie, it's a burden to your survival.It's stark I know, but that's because the psychology of the book reflects the terrifying reality of his topic. He speaks to the reader, involves the reader, does not let the reader sit as a passive observer to the events of the story. He assaults their very existence, calling them - us - "...stone-age nomads, eking out some marginal existence on the veldt - denying even the possibility of agriculture, because hunting and gathering was good enough for your parents." In other words,you may not like his viewpoint, you may disagree with him philosophically and morally, but those efforts are shallow rationalizations. A predictable human response, one that we've expressed in the face of the inconvenient reality throughout history - from denial of the Holocaust to the rejection of human-induced climate change. Humans don't like uncomfortable truths, and through sentience we seek to derive meaning beyond, create illusions where the truth doesn't fit what we'd like it to.The book itself is clunky, laden with metaphors, similes and figures of speech that distract from the clarity and flow of the story. In fact, as story-telling goes, Blindsight leaves a lot to be desired. Vivid, if at times difficult to follow, descriptions do add to the horror, though, and his writing leaves the reader with an impression of his brilliance when interlaced with his unabashed scientific literacy and ability to give double-meanings to every event, action and twist in the story. It may not be the best writing, but that's a byproduct of his intelligence.Blindsight, in sum, is a novel that examines sociopath mindsets, the consequences of automation, philosophical justifications for science, art and pursuit of knowledge, and humanity itself. Watts is undoubtedly brilliant, although that doesn't make him necessarily right. He is a biologist with a PHD who seems somewhat bitter at what he perceives to be humanity's arrogant, self important view of the universe. In Blindsight, he throws an extraterrestrial, planet sized vessel of destruction against our blinders, hoping,at the very least, to get us to see reality from another perspective.

I mostly read before sleep takes me over. Blindsight, however, required my full attention span, and I read it twice. Mr. Watts makes the reader work for it, and the reward is one of those novels I can't stop thinking about it. And the alien "entity" in this novel is never understood which to me seems more realistic than some novels where everyone is conversing in perfect English within minutes. And enough of the insectoid aliens. Why do authors insist on malevolent insect-type aliens? Give insects a break! (Tchaikovsky's Children of Time gets a pass for its wonderfully unique perspective on spiders). Plus, it's not very wise to have one's skeleton on the outside of body.Blindsight is in my top 5 of hard science fiction genre. Watts' view of the future is rather bleak; joy is removed from life's equation and replaced with an almost duty-bound search for knowledge. The mood he creates is a little bit like the Blade Runner films, particularly the recent adaptation. Echopraxia is the follow up; actually, there is a short story The Colonel in between that should be read as well. If you prefer novels like Alistair Reynolds' where characters have their own private worm holes, and the characters seem like they are waiting for the movie-version of the novel, this might not be for you. I highly recommend Blindsight, along with the Starfish series as well.

I tried to explain the plot of 'Blindsight' to my Dad recently. When I used the word 'vampires' and 'aliens' in the same sentence I came to the realization that it was impossible to explain this book. The fact is, these two things do not belong in the same genre unless you're deliberately embracing the ridiculous.And yet somehow - unbelievably - it works.Watts has created a story where it's quite reasonable that both creatures exist, and neither one is toned down or dismissed. They are both terrifying in their own ways and present their own horrific implications. While the aliens are an external threat, the vampires are an internal one, representing humanity's apathetic indifference to each other and the most basic, selfish drive to survive.The main character, Siri, is essentially a professional observer hired to tag along on a mission to intercept an alien spacecraft on the edges of our solar system. He and the entire crew all suffer some sort of neurological condition, with very different ways of viewing and interacting with the world. The language is precise and academic with supporting illustrations that read more like diagrams and infographics than narrative story illustrations. The illustrations provide a lot of information about the expedition members, supplies, and what it must have been like to explore during this time period. I would recommend this to 3rd graders and up. An excellent choice for building up the non-fiction library in your classroom or home. After reading this book, the kids were very excited to see the black and white photos taken during this expedition which are easily found online.

Great book for 3rd -4th graders to get a real idea of what these heros went through. The story telling is good and the illustrations capture your imagination.
