I purchased this book in order to advance my knowledge with excel. I want to learn more advanced topics using excel.The text is easy to follow and starts off with the basics (which I expected and I am perfectly comfortable with). The textbook often refers to spreadsheets needed to perform the exercises described in the book. The publisher DID NOT include access to these spreadsheets with the purchase of their textbook.A serious downside for this purchase has been the customer service from the publisher. I have asked the publisher for help toward obtaining the excel documents three times now (2 emails and one phone call). The phone call lasted 33 minutes and I was on hold for approx. 28 of the 33 minutes.Their website is NOT easy to navigate for help and my first written request for help was punted back to me telling me to contact another department without providing clear direction for how to contact the other department. I FINELY found a phone number to call. I already described the length of the call above. While they were nice on the phone I doubted the sincerity in their promise in getting me the information I required in order to enhance my training using their textbook.I STILL DO NOT have the excel spreadsheets required for the textbook and I am NOT optimistic that the publisher will follow through on their promise to me in providing those documents. I have not heard back from them regarding my request for help and/or the status of my request (if, in fact, they are truly trying to help).

The best part about this textbook is it's hands-on style. If you learn by doing, the format is great! The instructor sets the due dates and assignments, but outside of that, it is possible to work on each of the chapters and do just fine without much guidance. I wish there were a ranking system for textbooks that indicated the type of learning style that is most strongly supported. Maybe one of the future users of this textbook will come up with a system. :)Note: If you will be taking the MOS certification, some additional training may be beneficial.

Well written, clear exercises. I am taking the class through a community college, but I think one could use this text on their own to prepare for a certificate test if they wished.

This is probably the only way to learn this piece of software. It goes step by step on how to do things. There's no flowery prose or english major paragraphs. Just plain english instructions that you need.

Anthony has done a great job of capturing the information a new or intermediate photographer needs to get into the business and start selling their work to take their business to the next level. Anthony also takes the time to explain each type of photography and more importantly how to determine if you are a beginner, intermediate or expert in a given area. I'm sure that there are better books on the subject that cover more details of legal contracts, etc. but this book should be part of any new photographer's bookshelf. As always, Anthony provides excellent content at a fair price.

I enjoyed the text and found it quite informative. It presented a fairly good overview of the pricing conundrum for 'early entry photographers wanting to be a pro photographer type', which I am not. The text was quite informative even for someone like myself. I do my own photography, processing and printing with some small number of sales to friends. I could never look at being a working photographer..always responsive to others needs, which would, for me, be drudgery, yet the information will have some value even for folks like me - pour a cup of coffee, grab a danish and enjoy the read.

I'm only half way finished but I can tell you this book is just as good if not better than all the videos Anthony does, he gives so much to the photography community for free and does not ask much in return. Thank you Anthony for all the hard work you have done for us.....

I really enjoyed the no nonsense structure of this guide. It doesn't beat around the bush. The two subjects I was hoping to see were product or real estate pricing. That would have pushed it over the top for me. Otherwise, it was on point. Highly recommend!

Beau Keyte is the founder of Branson, Inc., a management consulting company focused on the application of lean transformation strategies and techniques. Beau began his "lean" consulting career in the mid-80s at the Ford Motor company. He has clients in wide variety of industries such as automotive, healthcare, financial services, pharmaceutical, paper, chemical, refrigeration, distribution, and transportation. Beau has also successfully tied lean initiatives to the "bottom line" through the application of lean cost management techniques.In addition to assisting companies in implementing lean strategies, Beau also trains organizations in a variety of public and private settings. He is currently a faculty member and instructor for the Lean curriculums at the Lean Enterprise Institute, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where he has assisted in the development and implementation of a consistent training program for use within small- and medium-sized manufacturers. I highly recommend this work for anyone looking to improve the work they do in service or information industries. As corporate counsel for an education management organization, I do a good deal of work with school districts as well as legal departments. I have yet to see one that wouldn't benefit from The Complete Lean Enterprise. For non-traditional environments such as legal departments and school districts looking to benefit from proven lean practices, this book should be mandatory reading.

Far from putting readers off though Sheppard opens a reader's mind to the patterns in and logical explanations of the adaptations of Standard English to conform to the style of speaking in Liberia English's underlying Niger-Congo linguistic environment—written in everyday language that scholars and ordinary readers alike can enjoy.Sheppard alerts his audience to the alternate phrasing of verb forms and the often colorful and vivid expressions and sayings speakers have developed in the unique English of Liberia.Surprisingly, some of the patterns in Liberian English and patterns of French are alike—though their linguistic origins are dramatically different—the dropping of the pronunciation of final consonants of words and the nasalization of preceding vowels in lieu of pronunciation of nasal consonants.Sheppard raises knowledgeable objections to subtle cultural biases against Liberian English by speakers of Standard English, sending readers to engage Liberians in conversation with a respect for the complex linguistic environment in which Liberian English evolved.Sheppard cautions his audience that a Liberian who very well knows and takes pride in a fluency in Standard English far from admiring a speaker's fluency in Liberian English may think that a speaker who chooses to speak in the vernacular views the Liberian as an unsophisticated rube and is "talking down"—an insult.A wonderful and valuable little book from Sheppard that indeed gives readers the means to "crack the code" of Liberian English.

I agree with the premise that "speaking", or more precisely, hearing, the language is key to understanding culture. I've not finished reading the book, but I have enjoyed what I have read, which is about one half of the book. I lived in Liberia for 3 1/2 years, 1985 - 1988, in two areas of the country that were both quite some distance in different directions from Nimba County where the author lived. I think at the end of the book that I am going to think that there is much more to be added to the definitions and proverbs, that perhaps the author needs more listening experience in other parts of the country, and I will be wondering if some of the words, phrases/idioms used in 1985-88 have by now evolved to meanings somehow different from what they were then. In his sequel, I think he should emphasize the importance of listening. :) But as I said I am very much enjoying the trip back to Liberia through reading his book.

I lived as a Peace Corps volunteer in Sinoe County for 3 years.We were never taught Liberian English, and my work required that I work in this language (too many other tribal languages in the area to learn one and use it throughout the county.). This author understands the language well and provides good insight into its logic. Wish I had this when I was there, as it would have helped me avoid some settling in problems. Thanks for this great contribution! .

Liberian English has evolved into its own Creole, on par with the spoken languages along the west African coast. In Cracking the Code, John Mark Sheppard gives a very useful history of the roots and development of "Liberian Vernacular English" and inadvertently exposes why so many Liberians today have difficulty mastering standard English. The dictionary and lexicon that form most of the book are also extremely useful for newcomers. All we need now is a standard orthography for Liberian English and we'll be set.

After having my own hard time understanding English in Liberia, I really appreciate the work that went into this guide. John adds some good background and explanations to the myriad ways to talk and speak in Liberia. It's extremely helpful and practical to solve some communication troubles before they begin.

It proved to be pretty much what I expected. We lived there for almost ten years as adults, but to truly get a grasp of the language and its nuances, you have to start as a child. I have known the author's parents for a number of years and know where he grew up. He took that life experience and with his later linguistics training, maps out the origins and regional variations of what is know Liberian Vernacular English. He includes guides on sentence structure and how pronunciation often heard there will differ for English learned in America or the UK. I wish I would have had something like this when we first arrived and even now it is helpful in restoring memories that are fading.

Author does a great job explaining the history and linguistic culture of Liberia.He obviously has invested many years immersing in the culture and language.It is a great guide for anyone who wants to learn this unique dialect of English and find out why things are the way they are in Liberia.

This book is worth every penny and more. I plan to get the hard copy. Helpful not only to foreigners but locals as well as anyone who has been out of Liberia for a while. Very funny as well as enlightening. First time I've read a dictionary from cover to cover.

Vygotsky was a genius! If you work with children or simply want to better understand human development I highly recommend this book. He blazed the trail with his theories, many of which are standard practice for early educators.

This book is very interesting and was somehow a mind opener for me. The book gives a good overview of the different approaches to the learning process which were available and discussed at the time. He explains the childs development not as simply a Newtonian deterministic process, but as mental and psychological processes in motion and change where the outcome often became different what had been predicted. It is amazing that Vygotsky could come up with these new and visionary ideas in Stalin`s Sovjet!

For people studying education, this book is essential. It is much more accessible than Piaget's works, and has so much relevance to the classroom because of Vygotsky's focus on language, and learning as a social experience. Dewey's Experience & Education is another personal favorite.

The second half of this book, "Educational Implications" discusses the Zone of Proximal Development. Learning about this "Zone" plus the discussion regarding how children learn to read and write, tells those of us who really want to help children learn, ways to set-up an environment and activities to do it!!Don't let the theory scare you away, this is a MUST READ!
