I am a Trump voting white male Texan. I honestly thought this book would be good for a laugh and as a coffee table "joke" book. I am now ashamed to have had that opinion. As I got into it, I realized this was not some irate crazy liberal finger-wagging at the white man. Instead, it was a really well written, non-political, sensible, well-reasoned and sourced take on an issue that is very important in this day and age, an age that you get labeled a racist for merely admitting you voted for Trump. But this isnt about me or my politics, this is about my little girl. A lot of people maybe have the mistaken belief that Texas is a bunch of white redneck racist hicks. That is true....in some very rural areas. For most of us, we live in extremely diverse areas. This is especially true in the South (where I am) and although this isnt scientific, I believe white americans are the minority here in favor of latinos/as. So the question addressed in the book has real application for me; my child is going to be in school with a lot of darker-skinned "minority" children. I honestly had no idea, prior to reading the book, how best to raise my white kid with respect to race. I would of assumed, wrongly, that you should either ignore it or just make it clear you need to be "color blind." The author has persuaded me thoroughly that, not only is this wrong, it actually may be detrimental to my child. Instead, the author in a very skilled, clear and illustrative manner explains how you should instead confront race head on when instructing your child. If we do not, the author suggests and I believe, we permit our child to tone us out in favor of their own associations and beliefs. (associations and beliefs that will likely be at best racially ignorant and at worst outright racist) At one point, I think quoting another author, she talks about race and likens it to "smog" suggesting it is all around us, everywhere and our simply choosing to disregard it (colorblind) is not only ineffective but harmful. It's a kind of cognitive dissonance. Our children arent so stupid as to believe us when we tell them to ignore race, or to be colorblind, but they also arent smart enough to really appreciate the abstract concepts about equality that we adults do. Instead, they need age-appropriate instruction from their parents and teachers that acknowledges race in a positive and respectful manner. This book does a fantastic job at describing how you can get started down that road. I want my child to forge enduring relationships with people of other races and not to lose out on what those relationships have to offer and the beautiful world around us full of diverse people. Although I was raised much differently, and my parents even more so, our children shouldnt be segregated off with their own for no other reason than we were too ignorant to approach race in a sensible, real way. I am persuaded that will be the result if I were to teach my child to be "colorblind" and to ignore race. Thank you Dr. Harvey and Im sorry for my stupid pre-concieved notions about what I thought this book might be. It is really a wonderful book and I hope others will give it a chance.

Kids spend a great deal of time in school; so raising them is the province, not just of parents, but of teachers as well. In my 20-plus years of teaching, I have seen so many of the truths that Jennifer Harvey communicates in Raising White Kids born out. Her examples and practical suggestions for engaging white kids on the subject of racial injustice make this work unique and help allay some of the helplessness felt by those who wish they could do something but don’t know what to do. I highly recommend it to anyone who works with children and young adults.Harvey’s work resonated with me because of my own experience as an educator. For the past two years I have been involved with organizing speaker symposiums and advisory times (in conjunction with a student cohort) at the Christian, affluent, predominantly white high school where I teach. The student and faculty cohort chose to address the topics of race and then privilege for the first two symposiums. Some valuable and much-needed conversation and connections came about as a result. However, in spite of our attempts to equip students with knowledge and examples of productive action, we experienced a significant degree of backlash from parents whose concerns included wanting to know why their children were being made “to feel bad” about being white.Some students, while convinced of our need to have such discussions, expressed trepidation at how their peers would respond. In the absence of much groundwork being laid regarding what it is to be Christian and white in a racially unjust America, a growing awareness of racial tension manifests itself as “anxiety, guilt, cognitive dissonance, or even anger when race does come up” (Harvey, 10). I have witnessed all of these reactions.There are a multitude of reasons that both parents and students are uncomfortable with such conversations, but parental anxiety often stems from fear and a desire to protect. We want to shield kids from heartbreak, but they will be heartbroken. It’s part of being human. We should want for them to be made whole, more fully human. As Harvey says, “white supremacy malforms my humanity, constrains my life, compromises my spirit” (119). Knowing that heartbreak is inevitable, what would we have break our children’s hearts? Shallow self-interest or a painful empathy that springs from the ability to recognize human dignity and injustice?In Raising White Kids Harvey moves beyond theory to offer realistic advice about how to appropriately talk about and model racial engagement with children and young adults. It’s a tool that will greatly benefit those who read it and those they impact.

I realized early in this book that I am at a very early stage in my personal development, and I need to work on myself before I can have any hope of helping raise my grandkid. Thanks for all the information, as difficult as it was for me to accept some of it.

I’m privileged to continue to learn from Dr. Harvey long after graduating from her courses. And, I need these words, this wisdom, and these strategies now more than ever. As a teacher and mother, I have tools to help my kids at school and kids at home become healthier. I have tools to help them connect history to what exists today. I have tools to encourage meaningful, powerful, and necessary conversations about race. I am grateful for this work and recommend it to everyone I can.

About the Author

Joel Gamoran is the National Chef for Sur La Table and stars on the television cooking show Scraps. After studying cooking in Italy, and earning a Restaurant Management Degree from the University of Connecticut and an ACAP Degree from the Culinary Institute of America, he worked in a number of restaurants along the West Coast. At twenty-four, he began teaching cooking classes at the famed kitchen retailer Sur La Table. He lives in Seattle, WA.

This book is awesome for both accomplish cooks and beginners. Chef Joel brings you into his mindset around using all the ingredients, especially the ones you have at home but might not think to us. It sounds daunting, but the book is incredibly approachable. Techniques are easy to follow and there is an openness to the cooking that makes you feel like you can do all the recipes. The recipes I've made so far have been tasty !!!! and my family is impressed with my new skills. Highly recommend for everyone, even if you never thought about food waste.

I did not learn anything new in this recipe book. Most of his tips and ideas I already knew about. I was very disappointed for spending so much money on this book

The vivid pictures bring you right into the kitchen. Each recipe is extremely approachable and adaptable. As someone who was exploring Anglicanism, I was all but sold on the denomination. They recite the creeds, they held the sacrament of Eucharist in the perfect balance theologically, they allow for both a catholic and evangelism outlook. However, paedobaptism was the only think stopping be from fully jumping in.Thanks to Twitter and the wonderful site Anglican Pastor I was discovered Scot's book. From the very beginning something that caught my attention was that Scot came from a very strong credobaptist position to the position he now take of paedobaptism not only being the tradition view, but also the biblical view. Scot even uses the liturgy for the baptism service to teach about the theology of the event, makes the statement Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi (the law of prayer is the law of believing) truly a motto.I felt Scot did a wonderful job answering the questions asked of those subscribing to infant baptism. Scot argues his case mainly by saying while paedobaptists do believe that something happens during infant baptism, the church and family of the child are meant to be drawn into raising this child with Christ. From this point, Scot points to covenant theology to explain infant baptism as biblical. He makes a great point that religion for most of human history has not been an individual mindset, but a family/nation mindset. While we believe that faith is personal, we are as Christians are also commanded to "train up a child in the way he should go" (Proverbs 22:6).Scot does a good job of explaining a sacrament as something that is material ("ordinary" is the word Scot uses) that God uses to show us and bestow his spiritual grace. If we view baptism not as something we do, but something God does it changes not only how we view infant baptism but also how we who have been baptized as Adults view our baptism.

I serve as the priest at an Anglican Church Plant. This is a great resource for our context. It answers so many questions that many folks are asking. It is thorough, biblical, and nicely brief. I’m planning to do a Book Study of it for our church plant this Fall after reading through it. Grateful for resources like this that serve the Church!

The author take on a tough issue. The question of baptism and its modes have alway played and important roll in the Church. It is a neat read.

The main thesis is summarised by the author as this: "baptism is not what we do but something that God does to us." And that says it all!Clearly stated and referenced from scriptureWell worth the read!

This is a great book for those who grew up in traditions where infant baptism is the norm and for those where it’s not. Short, sweet, and to the point McNight uses Scripture and the traditional idea of the Church as family to provide a provoking argument for infant baptism.

I grew up Methodist and was sprinkled as an infant. At the age of 17 I joined the Churches of Christ and was immersed in water as an act of believer's baptism. I also love Scot McKnight and his books and so this one quickly caught my interest.McKnight's approach to arguing in favor of infant baptism is unique for sure. As an Anglican he guides the reader through the Common Book of Prayer as if they were attending worship with him on a Sunday that a baptism was happening. The reader is able to take a deeper look into the liturgy and have a better understanding of why it is approached the way that it is.Near the end McKnight breaks from this in order to write about what the Bible teaches about baptism, and then to work to provide a scriptural case for infant baptism before returning to the liturgical baptism.Almost thou persuadest me, Scot. Almost. Scot focused primarily on covenants and the history of God bringing in not just one who receives the sign of the covenant (shown through circumcision) but how other males were also circumcised based on the faith of the patriarch whether slave or son, adult or infant. My 3 year old daughter was immediately interested and engaged with a friend's maze book, so I ordered this one for her. I followed the suggestion of a previous reviewer, and laminated several pages to begin with. I put them in a 3 ring binder and presented them to my daughter with a set of dry erase crayons. What a hit! She enjoys working on her mazes daily and I just take a few minutes each evening to wipe down the pages so they will be ready for her the next day. I felt the book was well set up in terms of building skill level as my daughter is breezing through the more challenging mazes at the end of the book now so I plan to purchase the next maze book in the Kumon series soon.

I have a 3-year-old and it worked great for him! He is not a fan of spending time for art or tracing. In fact, he did not like tracing at all before I have introduced him to this book. He keeps pretending to be a car and tracing his way out of the maze. Every evening before bed he asks me to do his mazes. We have just finished this Eazy Mazes (took us only 3 days) and got Kumon's next level of mazes. I definitely see results, he can draw more sophisticated lines, different angles, curves etcIf you are struggling to introduce your kid to tracing start with this workbook.

My 4 year old couldn't get enough of this book. Got this for his bday since he wasn't holding a pencil well and wasn't very interested in writing or coloring. This book was wonderful. It helped him learn to hold his pencil and he was so excited to do a few pages after daycare each night. Definitely got him interested in writing which is what I was hoping for.

I originally bought for my just turned 5 yr old nephew. This book was way too easy for him and his age. At the time of ordering it I read Kumon's description but did not read reviews, that's where I made my mistake.I kept the maze book for my 2 yr old niece when she turns 3 and ordered as high up in the series as I could go for my nephew. He does love the new book, but so far, still not that difficult for him. I'm hoping the mazes become more difficult the further he goes into the book.

The Kumon My Book of Easy Mazes is a great next step after the Kumon tracing workbooks. This workbook features very easy mazes that are perfect for a two or three year old. A four year old would most likely find these too easy and could be bored. This workbook could easily be finished within a month by spending at most 10 minutes per day. Ages: The two to four years old age range is appropriate for this workbook. Multiple Children: A workbook is needed for each child.

I bought this for my daughter and she LOVES to do the mazes! A tip - tear out the pages and laminate them. Then you can use a dry erase marker and do them over and over!

This is a FANTASTIC way to introduce small kids to the concept of mazes. They are simple and easy, but the mazes build complexity as you move throughout the book. We bought it for our 3 1/2 year old daughter for a long car trip. Since she had never done a maze before, it didn't work out for us in the car. But once we were able to sit down together and talk about the concepts, she loved the idea, and completed the first 19 in a row. It was fantastic to watch - so fun for us both. She still has about half the book left, and I've already ordered the next level up. Yes, the book is a bit pricey, but I say totally worth it. It teaches math concepts in a safe, fun way that helps kids build confidence. Great buy!

My three year old loves the mazes in this book! She would do the whole book in one sitting if I'd let her! Through using this book, she has gain more control holding her marker, and we make a game out of not hitting the lines and not getting caught by the 'traps,' as she calls them, which is just the wrong way areas of the mazes. I will probably buy is again so she can play these over again!

This is basically one internet article made into a very tiny book. Thirty pages of large font and photos that covers very basic information that you can get for free using Google and 5 minutes of your time.

Yes, it was a quick read - I did it in under an hour. He claimed not to mine Bitcoin as there are too many people doing it. Not sure what he means by "Fastest Computer" if every one is using the same GPU's so with the low odds he gives there must be something faster besides the "Rig" he says I can build. So, he suggests other cryptocurrency but who's to say the same for that one? Soon, Antminers will be available in March 2018 and what then? I had questions on which GPU's and this does a quick over view. At over 1500 watts of power to run a good rig I question this but only because I don't think in a given area my OLD house has enough power available.

The text gave a brief overview of mining digital currency. It is very high level with technical information on some computer parts and a sample of how to install in one specific instance. However, it recommends more google and independent research than chapters in the book. Although some links exist, I would have rated 5 stars had those links been there. The desire for efficiency is not just something with machines, but personal time as well.

In any book titled "The ultimate guide...", I expect more than 30 pages of Internet web site compilations. I'm pretty sure this was thrown together in less than a weekend. From the front cover...."I will be walking your thew". Really? The author can't use a spell checker? Don't waste your money.

I was expecting to get a book but instead I got maybe less than 10 pages of normal book which I finished in about 15 minutes. Content is very general so unless you never heard of "cryptocurrencies" purchasing this "book" is waste of money.

This book is eclipsed by one afternoon reading mining or any crypto forums. I CANNOT believe I wasted 8.59 on this- it’s embarrassing as I’ve mined for 4 years. The description is far grander than this dumb book. Do NOT waste your money.

30 pages of the most basic writing on the subject. I don't think the author spent more than two weeks working on this book. In addition the typeface is double spaced and their is a line of space in between each line of text. Total BS.
