I've been a Masters of the Universe forever and had no idea these existed. Just by reading the Forward you realize the massive undertaking the creative team on this book had, collecting four years of rare or completely lost He-Man comic strips.It's a tall book. About 14 inches tall, so it won't fit comfortably on the book shelf with the other He-Man books in this Dark Horse series. It's not like a typical Peanuts or Flash Gordon collection which were better archived by their distributors. The team on this book actually had to search newspaper archives the world over, obtain any microfilm from libraries and scans from collectors. They also tried to address the few story gaps they had because some of the material could not be found, but overall this book is truly an impressive work and a fitting tribute to a lost art.

Art style is very similar to the Filmation Cartoons. As a kid of the 80's and a fan of He-man based on the classic FILMATION series, I had no idea that the story continued on in newspaper comic strip format, and for over four years no less! Suffice it to say, this book and its high quality came as quite a shock. Excellent collection and fun read! Highly recommended.You know I gotta say it: this book has the power!!!

While I was reading through the editorial page, I was quite amused by the fact that the existence of a daily strip for HE MAN was not well know. I have seens/read this strips in "The Telegraph" sunday magazines and knew that these do exist. However, since there were three things going in parallel at that time (the minicomics, the daily + sunday strips + the MOTU TV shows), it was difficult to relate them all together. This book makes a great effort to gather one of the finest works done with HE MAN and gives the chance to revisit the stories which I otherwise thought as being completely lost in the gulp of time.I haven't finished reading all the stories, but certainly these stories are more detailed and engaging than the minicomics ones. The luxury of strips gives one to furnish these details and rightly so. It makes me a little sad that some of the strips could not just be found, hoping someone still has them and makes it to the book in future. Kudos to the entire team for their mammoth effort to compile and catalog these documents. It feels great to walk again in the shoes of a teenager.

As a child of the '80's and a long time He-Man fan to boot, I was pleasantly surprised to find out this newspaper strip existed. I'm even more surprised by the quality of the story and art in this strip. This is classic Filmation He-Man adventure the way you remember it, except most of us have never been able to read these particular adventures until now. Painstakingly and lovingly compiled and restored (there is a fantastic article in the book describing this process) and beautifully presented by Dark Horse Comics. My only beef, and it is a minor one, is that it is presented with a high gloss printed hardcover and does not have a dust jacket.This is a good, old fashioned, rip roaring adventure strip, written with sophistication and humor for audiences of all ages. It stands high above the DC and Star Comic adaptations from the early 1980's and well deserves a place on your bookshelf next to Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon, Chester Gould's Dick Tracy, or whatever your favorite example of the comics medium may be. Well done all around. Thank you, Dark Horse!

My husband is obsessed with MOTU and it's hard to find gifts for him. I was excited to receive this and I flipped through it myself. It's a large heavy book, the comics are great, and the additional information in the book was awesome. My husband was impressed and thought it was the coolest find.The quality of the book was amazing, the listing said "used" but I find that hard to believe. It was in great condition.

This book made me young again!!! It was everything I remember He-Man being and more!!! I highly recommend this book for any Masters of the Universe fan!!!

Totally unreadable ! Its a total waste of money. I read "Chemical Dependency" for 30 CEU from Homestead School Inc., and that's much easier to read and understand. I also read Addiction for Nurses by Hussein Rassool.

Poorly written, far too broad on information not seen in ANY of the exams. Some content matches the exam, but this wanders far off base for certification content requirements and content. This is a monopoly sale, meaning this IS THE MAIN BOOK required for the exam! Not succinct enough compared to nearly any other specialty exam, or matching books. This specialty is in DESPERATE NEED OF COMPETITION! Please, someone else get certified THEN publish a book with focused content! Yes, I'm certified.

The content of the core curriculum book is very dated and has a plethora of statistical numbers strewn through it but very little up-to-date information about direct care of patients suffering from an addiction. Although the outline served as a good guide I only give it to stars because The content was really lacking

I agree that it's poorly written. There are lots of grammatical errors. The format is ok for an overview,but I was expecting much more detailed information. I am disappointed.

The whole book is basically in an outline format, not a readable narrative form. I have never seen a book written this way. It is so hard to understand because only key words and phrases are written down. I would not recommend this book.

This book contains inaccuracies. Much of the material is outdated. It is written in an outline format, which makes it choppy and sloppy. There apparently was no editing for grammar or punctuation.I have paid to join the organization. I have paid to take the test. As an Advanced Practice Nurse, I am embarrassed for this nursing organization.I will offer to edit your next edition for free. I was an English minor in college. I'd like to see my nursing organization put a better foot forward. Addiction is killing people. We can't be left learning from a book where most of the citations are from the 1980-90s.

No questions and answers. Dry, dry, dry. Not worth the money.

I have read many, many books in my lifetime, but Sy Montgomery's Journey of the Pink Dolphins has taken my breath away. What a lovely tale, and how much the reader wants to send messages to Sy at the end of the book! This book is about the challenges life sends us, and what we can only reply to, more belief in what Montgomery has written, and a deep sympathy to the dolphins she embraced during her quest. A reader comes away with the sensation that dolphins are everywhere, we must have only used our eves and live in the moment to understand her dolphins.

I thought that this was a supremely superb book regarding a magnificently spiritual creature that is elusive and undergoing a profound tragedy of population decline.

It was a nice travelogue.

Beautiful writing. Courageous writer and researcher. All her books are inspiring, moving, and honest. Sy Montgomery has a true heart and an amazing intellect.

The author really opens up a new world of dolphins, his love for them, and the culture that surrounds them. A great read, one you won't ever want to let go of.

The book itself is fine for a used book, but they never indicated that it would come covered with library stickers which was disappointing.

Like others have reviewed, this book is only loosely based on the dolphins themselves and read much more like a well-written anthropology thesis about dolphin folklore/mythology and the people working to study them. As with other Montgomery books I've read, I find her to be an above-average writer, but an average to slightly-below-average story teller, and this book was no exception. Could serve as a good travelogue for those thinking of visiting this region and accumulating reference material to read before they go, but if looking for a book about pink dolphins, keep shopping.

I loved this book! Sy Montgomery is a talented writer, able to put you in exotic places with vivid descriptions, I almost felt I was in the Amazon. She really brought it to life, I look forward to reading another book of hers I have purchased, "Search for the Golden Moon Bear."The book focuses on the author's quest for the pink dolphin, but really it is a journey to find not one but two dolphins. I don't refer to the other species of dolphin that lives in the Amazon, the tucuxis (one which she also covers in the book), but for two sides of the same animal. On the one hand she searches for the pink dolphin, the bufeo in Spanish or boto in Portguese, a living animal of which little is known about in comparison with many other dolphin species. Living in the most massive river system on earth, one connnected to innumerable lakes in the rainy season, in waters often black as coffee and infested with caimans, piranha, stingrays, and electric eels, in often very remote regions to which there is no reliable transportation to, it is a difficult subject to study. An example of cetaceans from an earlier geologic era, primitive when compared to modern oceanic dolphins, the pink dolphins preserve something from an eariler era, a holdover in the modern world. Montgomery and her various companions in the book struggle to get good observations of the dolphins, to try and track them, to identify individuals, to observe their behavior. The author finds that even experts who have studied the bufeo for years are often perplexed by them. She has many successes, providing much interesting information on them and a fine series of color photographs of the often startingly pink dolphins.Montgomery though is also questing for the Encante, the mystical shape-shifting dolphin that is very real to many of the peoples who live along the mighty Amazon. Believed to exist in fabulous cities beneath the surface of the river, the locals speak in conspiratorial tones about the dolphins' magic powers and often lust for attractive humans. The natives often worry that their wives, husbands, sons, and daughters will be stolen about by the fabulous Encante, and speak with awe and reverence about the dolphins. Montgomery continually quests for the natives' views of the Encante, for their "true" tales, and for how they protect themselves against their fantastic attention.Montgomery doesn't exlusively focus on dolphins though. Her book in part is a vivid travelogue of Amazonia, bringing us to many exotic locations. We visit Manaus, the impossible Paris of the Amazon, home to an opera house right out of a fairy tale. Built upon the backs of native jungle peoples by rubber barons, today it is a squalid city trying to embrace change. She takes us to amazing Meeting of the Waters, where for miles two tributies of the Amazon, the black River Negro and the white Solimoes, flow side by side before forming the true Amazon River. We are taken to two different nature reserves, both with differing strategies, Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo and Mamiraua, where some of the rich life and deadly beauty of Amazonia is preserved against an uncertain future. Montgomery takes us to the impossibly clear waters and white sandy beaches of the Tapajos and Arapiuns Rivers, where she actually swims with the dolphins, something not possible elsewhere in the dark and piranha-infested rivers elsewhere. She undertakes a vision quest by taking the hallucigenic Ayahuasca or "Mother of the Vine," something few Westerners have done (and for good reason).Further, while the bufeo or boto is the star of the book, many other animals form a rich supporting cast. The odd hoatzin, a bird with claws, seemingly someting out of the Mesozoic. Electric eels, extremely common and suprisingly complex. Caimans, another seemingly prehistoric species. Amazonian manatees, gentle vegetarians that are much more intelligent than often given credit for. The weird side-necked turtle. All manner of insects, including ants. And more are given space.Some have said that she rhapsodizes too much in the book, but I disagree. She has done her research, the book is filled with interviews with experts, and there is a nice bibliography at the end. She has skillfully combined hard science with poetry, and the effort is very worthwhile. I highly recommend it.
